Because I don't already have enough going on with 2 babies, a full time job and the recent purchase of a new home I thought I would add a cake decorating class and a second blog to my schedule. My rational for taking this class was dual purpose- 1) I have 2 kids- that's a lot of birthdays, events and school functions that add up to CAKE and lots of it so why not learn to do it on my own. 2) It's nice to go out with just myself every now and then. The reason for the blog is to track my progress and hopefully keep me committed to continuing through the various classes...
Last Monday in my first class we learned the basics- how to top (cut) a cake, how to make icing and how to ice a cake. My in house Baker, Bryan, baked a lovely, level cake. I made the icing just as the instructor instructed and it came out surprisingly well. As for icing the cake, not so much. Let's just say I have lots of room for improvement.
